Day 1
Begin your visit to Upstate South Carolina with a hike through Caesar’s Head State Park to Raven Cliff Falls. Hike to the rocky overlook viewing area where at 3,208 feet you will have an eagle’s-eye view of the great Blue Ridge. You’ll head west on the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway to Table Rock State Park for dinner. Spend the night at an area B&B. If you’re tired from your trip and would rather spend a relaxing day, go to Devils Fork State Park first. Here you will find Lake Jocassee, the state’s coldest, deepest and most pristine mountain waters. Take a lake tour, relax at one of the swimming areas or take a leisurely stroll.
Day 2
Today you’re in for a full day of white water adventure. You’ll start off by heading south to Long Creek where you will embark on a fast paced rafting trip down the Chattooga River. Born high in the Carolina mountains and dropping an average of 49.3 feet per mile in its race past the woods of Sumter National Forest, this 40 mile mountain river separates South Carolina from Georgia. After your trip you head down to Historic Pendleton or Clemson to spend the night.
Day 3
This morning you’ll start off with a leisurely stroll through the South Carolina Botanical Garden at Clemson University. Some 2,200 varieties of ornamental plants are raised in the 270-acre consolidation of five smaller gardens. After your tour you will drive the scenic back roads of the Upstate to Historic Abbeville for lunch. You’ll be coming back this afternoon so continue through Abbeville to Edgefield. Visit the National Wild Turkey Federation and Old Edgefield Pottery. If you enjoy a little history visit Oakley Park or Magnolia Dale. You’ll return this evening to Abbeville. In Abbeville tour the Opera House and enjoy a show this evening. Spend the night at an area B&B or at the Belmont Inn.
Day 4
Today you’ll begin with a scenic drive through the small towns of South Carolina. Enjoy this rural southern route to Chester. This afternoon after lunch in Chester, you’ll enjoy a fun afternoon of canoeing through the Landsford Canal State Park. Built in the 1820’s this canal was part of a series of canals constructed to move cotton through the south. Drive to Historic Brattonsville, a film site for the movie "The Patriot," in addition to the living history village and Revolutionary War battlefield site. Walk the Walt Schrader Trails, 8 miles of interconnecting trails. Listen to warblers while red-shouldered hawks fly above. You may catch a glimspe of wild turkey or white-tailed deer. Tonight spend the evening in Rock Hill.
Day 5
Your full day of amusement starts off early at Paramount’s Carowinds. You’ll enjoy thrilling rides, spectacular shows, WaterWorks water park and much more at this 100-acre theme park. After your day of thrills and chills spend the evening in Rock Hill. Or if you still have some energy left travel down to Gaffney to stay at the B&B.
Day 6
This morning you’ll start with a quick trip through the scenic back roads of the Upstate to Cherokee County. Spend the morning shopping at Prime Outlets at Gaffney. The big yellow outlet mall offers over 80 stores and shipping services to send your purchases home. Lunch at the outlets' food court before continuing on to Spartanburg. This afternoon tour the North American home of BMW. The unique visitor’s center and museum offers a look at the influence of BMW engineering in the automotive, motorcycle and aviation industries. If the weather is good you’ll want to take a stroll through Hatcher Gardens in Spartanburg. This beautiful garden has more than 10,000 plants and is a haven for birds and wildlife. You’ll return to Greenville for your departure home.
