Designated by Congress in 1996 as a National Heritage Area, the corridor begins in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Oconee County, through the Edisto River Basin, to the port city of Charleston stretching 240 miles across SC. The corridor tells the vibrant story of South Carolina’s evolution and culture.  Classic Upcountry mill villages, whitewater rivers, waterfalls, mountain lakes, small town life, agriculture, gardens and more make up the corridor’s Mountain Lakes Region that includes Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.
