The park features the Liberty Bridge, a one of a kind cantilevered, 355’ long and curved pedestrian bridge that overlooks the 62’ tall waterfalls and numerous landscaped gardens. Guided tours for children and adults are available along with two restaurants in the park. Additional eateries are located within walking distance in the West End District. It features several thousand varieties of ornamental plants, both native and introduced, niche gardens; natural woodlands and streams, an arboretum, and the only nature-based sculpture collection of its kind in the nation. A visitors’ center, geology museum and cafe are on site as well. The garden hosts numerous educational workshops and events year round, including nature walks, concerts and festivals. Plant sales are held in April and October. The grounds are open 365 days a year from dawn until dusk. Group tours are available by appointment. Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve820 John B. White Sr. Blvd.Spartanburg, SC 29306 (864) 574-7724 www.hatchergarden.org Features at this 10-acre public garden include a series of ponds, walking trails, plantings of annuals and perennials, shrubs, native woodland and a diverse population of wildlife. Activities include a self-guided tour, plant identification, wildlife observation with facilities for picnics and nature studies. Open daily during daylight hours. Station Cove Botanical AreaThe area contains beautiful displays of spring wildflowers, including numerous rare varieties, at the base of a 60’ waterfall. The area can be found in Sumter National Forest. The site lies off of Road 95, which is about six miles north of Walhalla off SC Hwy. 11.Wofford College Arboretum429 North Church StreetSpartanburg, SC 29303 (864) 597-4180 www.wofford.edu The arboretum encompasses the entire 150-acre campus that has been planted with more than 5,000 trees since 1992; some 3,000 of those have been mapped for three self-guided tours that are open throughout the year. Wofford College and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System have connected their campuses by the Liberty Trail, which has been designated as part of the Hub City Connector, a 12-mile trail that runs through Spartanburg and is part of South Carolina’s Palmetto Trail.
