Hunter’s Store

An 1850s mercantile establishment houses the Pendleton District Historical, Recreational and Tourism Commission. It features an arts and crafts shop, bookstore, and an exhibit area and research library. Open 9am-4:30pm M-F,Sa 10am–3pm April–October.

South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame

The Tennis Hall of Fame features portraits of the 47 inductees painted by Belton native Wayland Moore, as well as memorabilia donated by the inductees. It houses artifacts and trophies relating to tennis history in South Carolina. Enter the Hall of Fame through the Belton Museum. Open 10am 4pm W-Sa, or by previously scheduled appointment.

Located midway between Cowpens and Kings Mountain Battlefields, the Cherokee County History & Arts Museum houses permanent exhibits on Native Americans, geology, mining, the Revolutionary War, railroads, agriculture, textiles, southern social life, and more. Hours: 10-4 Wednesday – Friday; 2-5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Admission: $5 for adults; $3 for children under 12

One of the country’s premier American art museums, drawing visitors from around the globe to see the work world class artists Andrew Wyeth and Jasper Johns. Also see The Southern Collection, tracing the history of american art from Colonial times to the present. Opens at 11:00 Tu-Sa, 1:00 on Sundays. Galleries close at 5 except Th, when they’re open until 8:00. Admission is always free.

The center is an African-American history museum and culture center dedicated to the preservation of African-American history in the Greenville area. The center includes a research library, a resource center to exhibit the achievements of local African-Americans dating back to the late 1800s. African-American bus tours can also be arranged for family reunions and other visitors to Greenville. Tu–Sa 10am–5pm.

Antiquers Haven Museum & Shop

The facility features the largest varied antique collection in the Southeast. A seven room house is furnished with 1690 to 1890 period pieces, clothing, toys, guns and fine china. In the Emporium, read an 1863 newspaper account of the attack on Ft. Sumter. Check out the medicines,fashionable jewelry and salesman samples. There is an 1887 barber shop with its bleeding bowl, a tavern with an 1800 bar and 1860 pool table and a dentist office with a foot-powered dental drill and folding chair for traveling. Bob Campbell Geology Museum

The museum houses an impressive variety of minerals and gems including one of the largest faceted gem collections in the southeast. Fossils, meteorites, and terrestrial rocks are also on display. A large walk-in darkroom showcases minerals that fluoresce under ultraviolet light. The newest exhibit of the life-size ‘smilodon’, a saber-tooth cat skeleton is the only one of its kind in the southeast Open Th-Sa 10am-5pm and Su 1pm-5pm. Admission. Group tours available. Located in the SC Botanical Garden. Closed on University holidays.

Central History Museum

The 1893 house was the home of a local merchant and now houses a collection of historic memorabilia concerning the town and surrounding area. The Central Heritage Garden includes roses, gardenias, and azaleas with scattered pieces of sculpture. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open each Sunday 2-4pm, except holidays; or open by appointment. Gardens are open daily dawn to dusk. Admission.

Fort Hill/John C. Calhoun House Museum

John C. Calhoun, Vice President to John Adams and Andrew Jackson, made his home at the plantation. The home later became the home of his son-in-law, Thomas Green Clemson, founder of Clemson University. Now a National Historic Landmark, the house contains items which once belonged to Calhoun and Clemson. Open M-Sa 10am-12pm and 1pm-4pm; Su 2pm-4:30pm. Donations suggested of $5 adults, $4 seniors and $2 children.

Hagood-Mauldin House/Irma Morris Museum of Fine Arts

The house was built circa 1828 at the old Pickens Courthouse and moved to its present location in 1868. The classical Greek revival house features 17th and 18th-century art and furnishings. Open Apr-Oct, third Sa of each month, 11am-4pm. Admission. Group tours are offered by appointment.

Housed in a recently expanded 1902 Victorian style jail building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum features permanent displays on regional history as well as changing exhibits of traditional, folk and fine art. Open Tu, W, F 9am-5pm, Thu 9am-7:30pm and Sa 9am-4:30pm.

Cowpens Depot and Museum

The museum is housed in a 100-year old freight depot that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is a showplace for relics belonging to the crew of the USS Cowpens, a World War II aircraft carrier CVL25 and the USS Cowpens Aegis Guided Missile CG 63. The ships were named after the Battle of Cowpens, a pivotal battle of the American Revolution that took place at the “Cow Pens.” The museum is open by appointment.

The Regional Museum has a broad collection of artifacts depicting a proud regional heritage. Take a stroll down Memory Lane as you are transported back to the turn of the century with a nostalgic walk down Main Street. Return to the gaslight and horse and buggy days as you explore the hands-on exhibits in our general store, train depot, blacksmith’s shop, railroad depot, theatre and a one-room schoolhouse. Additional permanent exhibits explore the history of the Lakelands from pre-history through the 1920ΓÇÖs and the hidden science of the natural world. Regularly changing exhibits explore the art and culture of the Lakelands. The Museum’s store is an excellent resource for literature and local arts and crafts. Open Wednesday-Saturday 10:00-5:00.
